IV Sedation

Relieve your Dental Anxeity

Dental anxiety is a common issue, so much so that it prevents between 9 and 20% of patients from visiting their dentist. This is a serious problem because these patients are almost certain to develop severe oral health issues as a result of avoiding treatment.

At Amherst Village Dental, we want to ensure you receive the quality care you need in an environment that feels comfortable for you. That’s why we have a licensed anesthesiologist on call to provide IV sedation upon request.

What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation involves administering a blend of medications directly to your bloodstream, helping you feel calm and euphoric. You’ll feel the effects within moments and remain in a state of deep relaxation throughout your appointment. If you have extreme dental anxiety to the point where you’re uncomfortable receiving an IV, we can offer nitrous oxide to ease you into your sedation.

It’s important to note that you don’t actually lose consciousness under IV sedation. Instead, you’ll experience what’s often referred to as “twilight sleep,” meaning you’ll remain responsive but won’t feel any pain. You’ll also have little to no memory of the procedure when it’s finished.

The effects of IV sedation can linger for an hour or two after treatment, so you’ll need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home from our office.
